Congratulations to Assistant Professor David Clases at University of Graz on receiving an ERC Starting Grant!

David will use his grant to go on a “chemical journey through time”. He will detect and investigate the smallest dust particles in polar ice. By analyzing layers of polar ice, he can draw conclusions about past climate conditions, natural events and human emissions.

To look into the past, David will use three technologies (two of them supplied by BRAVE Analytics): He will combine OF2i and Raman analysis with element mass spectrometry.

David Clases: “This allows us to view the particles with a level of detail that we have never seen before.”

His goal is to gain new insights into climate cycles and occurrences over a period of more than a 100,000 years.
